Metal Care

I hope you enjoy your artwork. Here are a few tips to help keep it looking lovely!

Steel and copper

Firstly, please do not wash or wipe steel or copper pieces as this may remove the protective lacquer and wax finish and could damage gilded surfaces.

To keep pieces looking at their best simply dust with a soft brush and occasionally clean them as follows:

  • Un-gilded steel and copper surfaces may be polished with a little clear beeswax polish; Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish is ideal.
  • Surfaces that have gold leaf or copper leaf applied should only be dusted gently with a very soft clean dry cloth or soft brush. Do not apply polish.

Candles

Can be used, but with care. Always place candles in a tea-light holder or similar and not directly on the gilded surface. Do not allow wax to drip onto gilded surfaces, or the flame to touch the gilding.

Silver

To maintain a matt and brushed finish avoid using silver cleaners or impregnated cloths. Silver pieces should be washed regularly in warm water with a mild washing-up liquid. Dry thoroughly with kitchen towel, and then with a hairdryer on a hot setting. Gently polish with a soft cloth. Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish can be applied to help prevent tarnish if required and to enhance oxidised (black) silver.

My pieces are intended for interior display.
